Sometimes the Reckless Move Is the Only Move
There’s something terrifying about walking away from everything you’ve built—especially when you have no safety net. No plan. No guarantee that things will work out. But sometimes, the reckless move is the only move.
If you’re feeling trapped in a life that doesn’t make you happy, if you’re waiting for the perfect moment to make a change—this is for you.
The Breaking Point
Not long ago, I was stuck in a cycle of 60+ hour weeks at my desk job in London. I had a career, a steady income, and all the things I was supposed to want. But in reality? I was exhausted, unfulfilled, and watching my life pass me by while I sat behind a screen.
Then I took a trip that changed everything. A fitness retreat in Thailand made me see my life for what it really was: a hamster wheel I had no interest in running on anymore. I had been fuelling myself with stress and convenience food, grinding away at a job that drained me, all while my health, happiness, and relationships took a back seat.
I knew I couldn’t go back to that life. And if you’re feeling the same, neither should you.
Taking the Leap—Even When It’s Scary
So, I did something reckless. I quit my job and moved to Thailand with just £5,000 in my account and £5,000 in debt. No job lined up. No safety net. Just a gut feeling that I had to make it work.
And here’s the thing—waiting until you’re "ready" is a myth. There is no perfect time. No moment where the stars align and your fears magically disappear. You either take the leap, or you don’t.
Was I terrified? Absolutely. But fear is part of the process. The question is whether you let it keep you stuck or use it as fuel to push forward.
Figuring It Out Along the Way
I arrived in Thailand on a tourist visa, determined to find remote work. I landed a remote job, and it didn’t work out. So, I pivoted again. I went to Australia, picked up odd jobs—whatever I could to keep myself afloat—while figuring out what I really love.
And that’s when it clicked. I started my own thing—proofreading and editing, mostly for ESL learners I met along the way. Websites, apps, documents—whatever people needed help with, I took on.
And you know what? It’s working.
Why Taking the Risk Was Worth It
Am I rolling in money? Not even close. I still don’t have a penny to my name, and I’m still in debt. But I’m 17kg lighter, healthier, and—most importantly—happier.
I wake up to sunshine instead of grey office walls. I eat real food that isn’t processed or packed with chemicals. I have time to move my body, to think, to live.
If you’re stuck in a life that doesn’t make you happy, waiting for the right moment to leave—it won’t come. You have to create it.
Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? More than you can imagine.
Sometimes, the reckless move is the only move. And if there’s a little voice inside you whispering that you need to change your life—listen to it.
